FLORIDIAN BOARD MEETING December 7, 2009

9:30 A.M.. PGICA

 

The meeting was called to order @9:30a.m.. by President John Miller.

In attendance were John Miller, Judy Berger, Sue MacKay, Jo Ann Gulvezan, Mary Mazur, Sandra Helt, Bill Schindler, Elaine Struk and Cynthia Cowdrey.

Treasurer’s Report

Jo Ann reported that we have a balance of $4,160.00. She indicated this balance does not include the cost of the upcoming Xmas party, but indicated most of the attendees have paid. John asked that she follow up with those who have not yet paid.

Membership

Mary indicated that 34 members (17 couples) from the Newcomers will be moving up to the Floridians. Of these new members, 14 couples have paid there Floridian dues for 2010. John will send a Pineapplegram to new and existing members who have not yet paid the annual dues. Mary stated that she recently received a thank-you letter from Team Punta Gorda, thanking us for our $300.00 contribution for pavers, which have been laid.

Food and Friends

There will be no Food and Friend in December. The next get together will be January7th.

Ladies Lunch Bunch

Janet Kennedy will hold her annual “re-gifting” party for the January, 2010 Lunch Bunch.

Meet and Greet

A large group of 22 members enjoyed cocktails at Jacks, with 20 members staying for dinner.

Judy mentioned the service was a bit slow and has arranged for a server to be available for every 8

members in future gatherings. The next gathering will be January 7th .

Fun N Sun

Out and About

Despite Meet and Greet being held the same day as Out and About, 20 members took an 8 hour cruise up the Caloosahatchee River via the Intracoastal waterways, where the locks, native habitats and tropical growth were enjoyed by all. A full buffet was available with dancing provided on the way back. The tour was given by JC Cruises of Ft. Myers.

The annual Holly Days Tour was held December 4th. A group of ladies had an early 11:00a.m. lunch at Elena’s and then set off to have a tour of 3 holiday decorated homes in the historic district. While pouring rain was a problem outside, everyone had a great time admiring all the beauty inside.

Dine Around

Dinner was held at Bianca’s Restorante Italiano in N. Fort Myers. January’s Dine Around will be announced shortly.

Movie Time

No movie was scheduled for November. Members will be notified what movie will be seen in December.

Sports and Games

Ron Robinson has scheduled men’s golf for December 23rd. John Miller indicated all the Stone Crab games tickets have been sold.

The Commentator

Once again, the Board praised Sandra for her very interesting and creative article in the Commentary.

Web Site

Elaine Struk has accepted the position of Webmaster and is hard at work analyzing the current software.

The Board was very enthusiastic about working with Elaine in developing and maintaining our Web site.

Old Business

Judy Berger stated that thus far, 88 Floridians and Newcomers have signed up for the Christmas Party.

Regarding the Canal Lighting contest(the Floridians are co-sponsoring the event), John Miller mentioned we have more entries(64) than last year, due in part to better exposure by the newspapers. The contest will begin the night of December 15th , with December 16th and 17th available, if needed. Special prizes will be offered for a few of the top presentations.

New Business

As an FYI, a 5th Book Club is being created for PCICA members. Kathy Schindler is the co-ordinator, along with 4 chairpersons.

FLORIDIAN BOARD MEETING December 7, 2009

The meeting of the 2010 Board was called to order @10.40Aa.m. by future President Judy Berger. In attendance were Judy Berger, Sue MacKay, Cynthia Cowdrey, Diane Lowy, Judy Denham, Elaine Struk, John Miller, Sandra Helt and Bill Schindler.

Food and Friends/Lunch Bunch

Judy Berger will make it clear to the members that “Singles” are welcome at Food and Friends.

There may be occasions when the Floridians & the Newcomers will combine to attend these events.

Food and Friends/Lunch Bunch-Changes to guidelines

1) The number of guests at one house will be limited to 12 or less members per event**

2) A member must volunteer to host Food and Friends if 3 dinners are attended during the year.

3) A member must volunteer to host Ladies Lunch Bunch if 3 lunches are attended during the year.

4) The Committee chairpersons for Food and Friends and Ladies Lunch Bunch will be solely responsible for determining whose home a member will go to. All communications between guests and hosts are to be channeled thru the Chairpersons. Members should not contact a host to ask to be included. Hosts shall not add a guest(s) without informing the Chairperson(s).

5) The scheduled dates for these events are flexible, if necessary. This is to be done as an exception only.

Out and About/Old Business

Floridian volunteers will help out at the February 26th “Carnival for Cooper Street “ kids.

Judy Berger went over some of the 2010 activities planned for the Monday’s General Meetings.

(1) January 11th - a game similar to last January, where each member had a clue pinned to the back and members tried to guess the answer. One idea was to have a “Where were you born” game. Judy asked the Board to offer other suggestions. Judy estimates 50-60 members will attend. Cynthia volunteered to pick up a case of wine for the event.

(2)February 8th-A guest speaker will do a PowerPoint presentation on ”Florida’s Friendly Gardens”.

(3)March 8th-Bill Schindler is hoping to get Mayor Harvey Goldberg as a guest speaker.

(4)April 12th-John and Jeanne Kapps are planning a Dine Around close to the to the Repertory Theater in

Ft. Myers. She hopes to combine Dine Around with Out & About and attend a play. They are hoping to get

a speaker from the Repertory Theater for one of our General Meetings.

(5)May 10th -The annual “Picnic in the Pavillion“ will be held. Ken and Judee Fish have graciously volunteered to manage this and other food events.

(6)June 14th -Pizza and Games

(7)July 12th -Cook-out

(8)August 9th -no activities to be held

(9)September13th -Looking for ideas

(10)October11th -Taste of Floridians

(11)November 8th -Looking for ideas

(12)December 13th -TBD-perhaps something holiday oriented
