MINUTES

FLORIDIAN BOARD MEETING November 5, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 1:35 by President Brenda McGinnis.

Also in attendance were: John Miller, Robin Stebbins, Judy Berger, Ron Robinson, John Owen, Lorraine Geiser, Betty Peterson and Naomi Gazzola.

The October Minutes were approved and accepted.

Treasurer’s Report

We had a balance of $2,772.30 at the end of Sept. The current balance is $2,534.31

Membership

Ron sent an invitation to the Nov. 10 General Meeting to 44 Newcomers who are eligible to join Floridians.

Committee Reports

            Eat, Drink and Be Merry

Darlene Rosen was Lunch Bunch hostess in Oct. The Nov. hostesses are Jeanne Kapps and Dede Barenholtz.

The Oct. Food and Friends hosts were the Rands, the Moellers, and the Bergers.

There is no host for Nov. which would fall on the day after Thanksgiving. It was agreed to eliminate this event for the month. The Petersons will host the next F & F on Dec. 19.

Meet and Greet

The next one will be on Nov. 6 at Mama Nunzio’s.

Fun n Sun

Ten members toured Sarasota Bay on Oct. 22 and enjoyed dinner at Sweet Tomatoes.

There has been no interest in the Cayo Costa trip scheduled for Nov. 18. The board agreed to cancel that trip and substitute a Mystery Tour for that date.

Dine Around/Movie Time

These events will be combined on Nov. 19 with a viewing of the new James Bond film.

Commentator

Lorraine is doing a splendid job.

 Old Business

            Canal Lighting Contest, Chairman, John Owen

John has a committee of 20 people. Application forms have been printed, announcements made in the Commentator and Newspapers, and judging is scheduled from Dec. 9-12.

Golf

Ron Robinson will be starting another “minor league” group for men.

Betty Chadwick organizes Ladies Golf.

Christmas Party Committee

All plans are underway. Janet Ketts will be collecting the $30. per person through Dec. 1. The entrees are salmon, chicken and London Broil..

We will be decorating Sunday Dec. 7. The C.A. will set up and clean up for $250.

November Meeting

John Owen will introduce new board members and conduct the election.

Visiting Newcomers will be asked to stand and introduce themselves.

Judy Berger will organize the meeting and make announcements. Janet Ketts will accept Christmas party payments.

Ron Robinson will conduct a Trivia Contest based on civics.

John Miller will be in charge of the ice cream social.

 New Business

Chairmen are asked to make two committee reports for 2008, one for the incoming chairperson and one for the President’s file.

Holly Days, Dec. 5

Judy Berger will organize the lunch and Tour sign ups.

Food Pantry Donations

We are going to ask members to bring non perishable food to each meeting starting with Nov. and including the Christmas Party.

Venice Christmas Walk, Dec. 4

Robin Stebbins will coordinate the sign ups and dinner at T.J.Carney’s.
