MINUTES
FLORIDIAN BOARD MEETING September 3, 2008
The meeting opened at 1:30PM with the
following board members in attendance: John Miller, Robin
Stebbins, Judy Berger, Lorraine Geiser, Jan Davis, and Bob
Dorman.
Missing were Brenda McGinnis, Ron
Robinson and Anne Moeller.
The July minutes were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report
Robin reported for the months of July
and August.
We started July with a balance of
$3,039.98 and ended August with a balance of $2,771.40. July
expenses amounted to $152.58 for the cookout on the fourth.
July income was $84. August expense was a $200 donation to
the Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of bringing wounded
marines to Punta Gorda for a short vacation.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
Jan reported that the Food and Friends
hosts for August were Darlene and Stan Rosen. Helen and
Jerry Connolly will be the September hosts.
The Lunch Bunch hostess for August was
Debbie Huddleston. Linda Supakoff will hostess in September.
Meet and Greet
The Sept. 4 Meet and Greet will be held
at Mama Nunzio at 5:00PM. John Miller will send out a notice
to the members. It is possible that we will go back to
Bennedetto’s Tiki Bar for the Oct. Meet and Greet.
Fun N Sun
The Jim Morris Concert planned for Aug.
28 was rained out.
A shopping trip to Naples called “Trail
of Treasures” is being planned for Sept. 19. Members will
meet at Bal Harbor to car pool at 9:30AM. There are nineteen
Resale Consignment and Thrift shops in a small section of
downtown Naples to poke through.
A sightseeing cruise on Sarasota Bay is
being planned for October.
We are looking into taking a King
Fisher cruise to Cayo Costa in November for a Shelling
Adventure.
Commentator
Lorraine is to be commended for her
informative monthly articles published in the Commentator.
Outreach
Anne Moeller would like members to
email photographs to the website showing their summer
activities.
Old Business
September Meeting
Bob Dorman has arranged for Vernon
Peoples to be our guest speaker. His topic will be “Florida
Hurricanes”. Coffee, ice cream and cookies will be served.
Bob attended the PGI Presidents’
Council Meeting on Aug. 5 and reported the following items:
The Civic Association will accept
credit card payments for dues.
The Bocce Courts will cost anywhere
from $30,000-$40,000 as currently planned.
There is some talk that the Civic
Assoc. wants to mandate club contributions ranging from $500
to $2,000.
The PGICA General Meeting will be on
Nov. 3. The Floridians participated in the Carnival of Clubs
last year so decline for this year.
New Business
The October General Meeting falls on
Columbus Day this year. It was proposed that the theme of
the annual pot luck be, “A Taste of Floridians, Italian
Style”. Lorraine will chair this event and oversee the menu.
Jan will contact the Newcomers and make
sure that the eligible members coming to Floridians are
invited to this event. Jan will also try to get a list of
the potential Floridians coming from Newcomers.
The Holiday Party is planned for Dec.
8. Blue Bayou will provide music and the caterer is Cheffy.
It was suggested that the club subsidize $10 per person and
offer tickets for the price of $30. per person.
The committee for the Holiday Party
includes the: McGinnis, Dorney, Berger, Modglin, Will and
Fish.
Donations
Our donation of $200 to the wounded
veterans has left $100 in the fund earmarked for donations.
It was decided not to sponsor a team to play miniature golf
to raise money for mammograms.
It was decided to hold that money for
requests closer to the holiday period.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:45PM.
