FLORIDIAN BOARD MEETING July 9, 2008

The Meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM by Vice President  John Miller

Attending were John Miller, Robin Stebbins, Naomi Gazzola, Jan Davis, Betty Peterson, Linda Supakoff, Bob Dorman and John Owen.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

The Minutes of the June meeting were accepted.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Treasurer Robbin Stebbins issued a Reconciliation Summary.  The previous balance was $3,375.68.  Three checks were cleared in the amount of $356.71.  One deposit made of $23.00

The ending balance is $3,039.98.  The report was accepted.

MEMBERSHIP: No Report

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Food and Friends: Betty Peterson reported that although Food and Friends is Scheduled for July 25 but no one has volunteered to host.  An appeal for host will be made by Betty at the General Meeting on July 14. 

Ladies Lunch Bunch was held today and 13 ladies were present.  Again, no one has signed up to host in August and an appeal will be made at the General Meeting.  Linda Supakoff volunteered to host if no one else volunteers.

Meet N Greet was held a Bernadettos on Wednesday July 2 jointly with the Newcomers.  Only 4-6 Floridians attended along with 3 or 5 tables of Newcomers.  It was decided to hold Meet N Greet at Mamma Nunzios in August.  John Miller will coordinate with the Restaurant.

Fun & Sun with Judy out of town no activities have been planned for July or August.

Commentator: No report although interesting articles continue to be placed in the Commentator  by Lorraine Geiser.

JULY MEETING: John Miller and Bob Dorman are organizing the cookout starting at 5:00 PM on July 14 at the Pavillion.  35 Floridians and 12 Newcomers have signed up to attend with a good mix of side dishes and desserts being supplied by the members.  The club will supply hotdogs and hamburgers.  Robin Stebbins will purchase supplies at Sams Club.  Robbin and John will check the supply closet for things on hand.

John will issue a Pineapplegram listing those who have signed up and encouraging others to join the fun.  It was suggested that members be asked to wear name badges and that Floridians make an effort to mix with Newcomers.  Paper name badges should be provided for those who forget.

JUNE MEETING.  A discussion was held regarding the problem with no-shows at the June Meeting with possible corrective action in the future.  Confirmation signup e-mails asking for those who cannot attend to notify the leader was agreed to be a necessary step due to the fact that sign ups are often months in advance and members may forget or have conflicts develop.

SEPTEMBER MEETING ( No meeting in August).  Bob Dorman has attempted to contact the Supervisor of Canals as a speaker.  Other possible speakers suggested are City Manager Howard Kunik, someone from the Water Department,  Mural Society painter Michael Beris, Punta Gorda historian Vernon Peeples and someone from the Chamber of Commerce.

 NOMINATING COMMITTEE: John Owen reported that the nominating committee is contacting candidates.  All positions except three or four have been filled.  Betty Peterson is coordinating with Janice Cruetzmann, President of Newcomers to identify possible candidates  from incoming Newcomers.
